Dear Friends of Disability Resource Center,
As I am consistently reminded, you learn something new every day! This past year has brought many unknowns. The staff and I were unsure how we would reach all of our consumers and stay connected with them through this trying time. What I learned is that we were able to think outside the box and connect with more people with disabilities than ever before!
Disability Resource Center staff worked remotely for many months. We were able to teach Fast Track and SKILLS classes and continue our Peer Counseling Groups via Zoom. Personal Assistant Orientation was also conducted through Zoom. We learned new phrases, such as, “Can you see my screen”, “You are on mute”, and “Your video froze”.
We continued to take phone calls and emails for Information and Referral, and we continued to advocate. Surprisingly, we were able to move people with disabilities out of the nursing home and back into the community.
We would not have been able to do this without the team we have here at Disability Resource Center! We have a well-qualified and passionate staff and a board of directors. They empower people with disabilities to live independently. I appreciate their time, talent, and dedication that they give to our consumers and the community.
We continue to reach out to new people with disabilities. If you are new to this website, please take a look around. I am very proud of our accessible website! Our website lists our Programs and Services, Resources, How to Donate, and All About our Center. If you have any questions on the services we provide after looking through our new site, please call our office for more information. Our staff would be more than happy to assist you.
Make sure to visit this website and our Facebook page often. We have a new and exciting project in the works. We will be announcing this project very soon! So stay tuned….
With Warm Regards,
